The second half finally woke up my son and got his attention, which was my only hope in our special night of father/son bonding. UpDating, being an amazing musical artist himself, made use of the intermission and gave me his thoughtful opinions, which led to some highly mutually enlightening interaction between us. While the first half of the concert was slow and sleepish, the audience was patient to a fault with him, looking for his pep. UpDating still delivered from his vast catalog with technical mastery that was truly some studio quality stuff. My son made some nice changes, admitting that he's been jaded. UpDating even ended the show with "I am a patriot" where he sings "and I ain't no Democrat". Give and you shall receive and that he did. What sealed the deal was that he departed from his normal "this is me sulking" mode and shifted into a more upbeat, yet still thought-provoking and balanced approach by letting other members of his new band take the spotlight as he stepped back out of the way for a moment, and then re-enter with his own highly polished on-the-mark finish. I could tell that the audience was satisfied and looking for his pep but was patient to a fault with him. The best thing to witness was to see him dropping his political rants and just deliver good music that touches the heart and prods the mind. Finally, what my son said was really missing from the first half; emotion, showed up in the second. He admits that he's been jaded. So, his generosity may have spawned some new solo careers, with his backup singers really adding a nice touch to his altered style. No one left disappointed. Yeah, right. Nobody is honest all the time. But that's ok. We know that he'll speak out from his bunker if the current President really screws things up badly. For myself, he could have just showed up and put the needle on the turntable of any one of his albums and I would have been satisfied but that's just me. UpDating came back out in the second half and won my son over. The crowd responded.
